True Love

When I think of a strong love relationship, I think of my mom and dad. My parent’s names are Carol and Robert Morton and they have been married for about 30 years, maybe longer. Both my parents show extreme patience with each other even when they are upset. Most of the time they don’t fight/argue because they have such great communication skills with one another, they know how to talk things out and handle problems in a good way instead of trying to verbally abuse each other. They are such a great team that they really enjoy being around one another even after all these years and all the obstacles they have had to overcome. All of these qualities make my parents stand out to me as a couple and show me what I want out of a significant other.

Sonnet 292

The eyes I spoke of once in words that burn, the arms and hands and feet and lovely face that took me from myself for such a space of time and marked me out from other men; the waving hair of unmixed gold that shone, the smile that flashed with the angelic rays that used to make this earth a paradise, are now a little dust, all feeling gone; and yet I live, grief and disdain to me, left where the light I cherished never shows, in fragile bark on the tempestuous sea. Here let my loving song come to a close; the vein of my accustomed art is dry, and this, my lyre, turned at last to tears.

  • This poem is about a man who has either lost his loved one or they parted ways. He uses imagery throughout the sonnet to convey his breaking heart as well as the world crumbling around him. He is so depressed there is nothing in his world that could possibly cheer him up besides his lost love. Basically he is lost without love and he ends his poem with tears.

Prompt Response
According to the critic, every moment in life could be poetic. In my opinion I think that not everything can be poetic. Some things can in fact be poetic but not everything. For example going to the bathroom or taking a shower isn’t really something to be poetic about. But things like your first kiss or getting married is something that can be poetic. No not every moment in life lends itself to poetry and someone who thinks that is naïve and childish. Although I suppose that everyone has their own opinions and maybe someone could think that going to the bathroom is poetic and that your first kiss isn’t or that maybe everything to them is poetic. I don’t understand though how everything could be perceived that way. I think that it also depends on the person, for example I am not whatsoever poetic but some other people just have that gift and talent to pop out a poem from the top of their head. If someone is super poetic I’m sure that to them every moment could be poetic but to me I disagree and I think part of that reason is because it blows my mind how something with no meaning could be made into a poem.
